In the book Winter cultivation, Sara shows how she challenges traditional cultivation methods to cultivate and harvest even in the middle of the freezing winter. And winter cultivation is not really just about the winter months themselves. A large part of the work is prepared during the rest of the year: In the spring, cabbage and root vegetables are sown for the winter. During the summer, new seeds are made from leafy vegetables and roots that should grow ready for harvest and be harvested when it is cold. And in the early spring, the results of what has been overwintered or sown during the winter are harvested. In other words, winter cultivation takes place all year round and that is also how it does itself best: woven into the ordinary garden year. It closes the circle, completes the growing year.

Sara Bäckmo is a journalist who cultivates and writes about the Garden of Difference in the Nordic region's largest garden blog (www.sarabackmo.se). She also produces the podcast The Difference by Sara and lectures extensively on vegetable growing.

Maria Fors Östberg shares Sara's garden passion and has been following the work in Skillnadens Trädgård with the camera for several years. She works as a freelance photographer and writer.
